Just saw it today and said almost the exact same things. It's far better than it should have been and made me forget MIB2. If anything Josh Brolin sold this movie, I was kind of sad we had to go back to Tommy Lee Jones by the end. Boris was a pretty crappy villain but once the movie got to 1969 it was great...until that preposterous ending for J's character.

Battleship looked terrible. When the night came for the screening I just couldn't subject myself to something I had heard was bad from so many people. I'll probably watch it at some point, but not anytime soon. I've never been a big fan of Sacha Baron Cohen, so I was hesitant to see The Dictator as well. I agree that when he goes for satire in his films he's brilliant, although his obvious, gross-out humor detracts from the product as a whole.

Great review. Incidentally, the other two Hulk films use motion capture as well. The difference between those and this is in the quality of the final animation and the character design.

Ok, I felt EXACTLY the same about The Avengers. EPIC GREATNESS. I absolutely loved it. I agree, Joss Whedon found the perfect balance, and made the film great on so many levels. I loved how he mixed the drama and comedy, and I found how he juggled all the characters exceptional. My biggest worry about the film was that it had too many characters (and big names) to make for a really compelling film, so I was incredibly excited when Whedon did the exact opposite. I actually felt like I got to know each character better.
I also agree about The Hulk, he was definitely the favorite with the audience I saw it with too. He got the biggest cheers, and the biggest laughs. I love Mark Ruffalo, so I'm just really excited that the role lived up to him. Bottom line: I cannot wait to see this film again...and, I love Joss Whedon.

I enjoyed reading your point of view, interesting points and a good read but through your critique of dissecting the film i feel you have left out how the movie worked as a whole, the idea that I found fascinating in this film is the idea of one man against the whole justice system that is failing us, 'It's not what you know. It's what you can prove in court.'

The understanding that the system is flawed and contradicted within itself which it shows us in the introduction of the film and uses this as a statement through the rest of the film. The choice in Gerard Butler is an outstanding choice as he demonstrates a grounded yet identifyable character that jason statham could not possibly create the same empathy nor let us believe he is capable of such feats. In my opinion he is the UK's equivalent to Steven Segal, not convincingly bright, enjoys fights and likes cheesey one liners

The 5 movie laws seem very critical and I am impressed this film did not take on the same actions as others which lead most films to be completely forseeable, actions such as showing the tapes to his daughter and killing a likable character, it creates surprise which I do not find in many films today. It may not be for everyone but it proves that he is willing to do whatever it takes to get his message across however deluded he may of become through a savage beating raping and killing of his family.sure it has a few flaws, the phone headshot was a complete joke, but nothings perfect.

This movie will stick out from the rest as a film that does not necessarily go through the same process to make a film that makes everyone happy more so a movie that keeps suspense and sticks to the rule of justifying peoples actions in order to make a kick ass action thriller. I enjoyed this and will class it as one of my greats, but the idea of the film is innovative and relevant, a must see for any film fanatic

Thanks for the review of Safe! After seeing the trailer I was intrigued, but not 100% sold, but now it sounds like fun! How was Jason Statham with the little girl? (that relationship seemed really sweet in the trailer) Also, was it a little more believable that gangsters would put a secret code in some random little gir's head? That gave me pause in the trailer...
